An important part of their everyday care and routine for many people living with PAH is being able to rely on someone who supports them. For every caregiver, there is a patient who looks to them as a source for inspiration, patience, and kindness. But some caregivers might not even realize the little ways they impact their loved ones!
How does your caregiver support you? How do you show them that you appreciate them? We asked some of our PAH Initiative Patient Ambassadors and here’s what they shared:
“If I could tell my caregiver one thing, it would be that her efforts have made this difficult life easier to deal with each day.”
“I show my caregiver I appreciate them by doing my best to help with the things I can handle. I encourage her to take time away with her friends and we try to go out on Fridays with friends and family for dinner.”
“One thing my caregiver does that shows me how much I mean to them is by doing the little things I need to stay healthy. She encourages me to go to the gym, helps me with a low-sodium diet, and keeps our house in order so it’s a nice place to relax.”
“My caregiver supports me emotionally by allowing me to vent when I’m feeling anxious, sad, or stressed without trying to solve anything. He just listens and responds only if I ask for his opinion or advice.”
“Something my caregiver might not realize I appreciate is when he brings me coffee while I am doing schoolwork. It’s like he knows that I need a pick-me-up.”
“My caregiver and I keep open and honest communication by taking an hour every day to sit and talk without any distractions, like TVs or phones.”
